No matter what kind of movies you like to watch, no one can resist a good comedy movie. A movie which makes you laugh until you can't breath. A movie which makes you laugh until you cry. A movie which you quote with your friends for the next few weeks.

I am also a humongous movie buff and would like to interest you in some comedy movies you may have not seen.

Step Brothers

[about Robert]
Brennan Huff: I'm not gonna call him Dad.
Nancy Huff: Brennan, you're 39 years old. I wouldn't expect you to call him Dad.
Brennan Huff: Well I'm not going to, *ever*! Even if there's a fire!

Will Ferrell, and John C. Reilly, in a movie together again were hilarious. Also together in Talladega Nights, these two were born to entertain. Step Brothers released in 2009, showed what it would be like for two middle aged men, acting as children, were to start living together as step brothers.

Will Ferrell playing Brennan, and John C. Reilly playing Dale, played to 40 year old unemployed, spoiled men who still live with their single parents. Their parents met, fell in love, got married, and moved in with each other. The competitions and arguments between Ferrell and Reilly is what made this movie truly memorable.

Step Brothers is another classic Will Ferrell movie. It is a good mood movie, and is able to make anyone laugh. I love pretty much all Will Ferrell movies, including this one, and I suggest everyone go see it.

The Hangover

Alan Garner: Hello. How 'bout that ride in? I guess that's why they call it Sin City.
[awkward laughter]
Alan Garner: You guys might not know this, but I consider myself a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself as a one-man wolf pack. But when my sister brought Doug home, I knew he was one of my own. And my wolf pack... it grew by one. So there... there were two of us in the wolf pack... I was alone first in the pack, and then Doug joined in later. And six months ago, when Doug introduced me to you guys, I thought, "Wait a second, could it be?" And now I know for sure, I just added two more guys to my wolf pack. Four of us wolves, running around the desert together, in Las Vegas, looking for strippers and cocaine. So tonight, I make a toast!

The Hangover released in 2009, was one of the biggest surprise movies of year. This movie came out of nowhere and was completely unexpected. All of the sudden everyone was being told they had to go see this movie. This movie was an instant classic, and is already ranked on many lists as one of the funniest movies of all time.

Zach Galifianakis, who had just started becoming a popular actor, made his mark in this movie. Galifanakis, playing Alan, was an absolutely ridiculous character; from giving his friends roofies to carrying around a baby he found in his hotel room, Alan was hilarious.

The Hangover is what all guys view as the ultimate bachelor party. A trip to Vegas a few days before the wedding and everything going terribly wrong. This movie was a fantastic; the quotes seem never ending, and is known as the funniest movie of the decade.

Billy Madison

Teacher: Spell "couch".
Little girl: Couch. C-O-W...
Teacher: [to little girl] No, I'm sorry, that's not right.
[to Billy]
Teacher: Well, Billy, if you spell this correctly you pass second grade.
Billy Madison: Couch. C-O-R, uh, r you going to the mall today?
Teacher: No I'm not goin to the mall, keep spelling, mister.
Billy Madison: C-O-U-C-H!
Teacher: Correct!
Billy Madison: I AM THE SMARTEST MAN ALIVE!

Billy Madison, released in 1995, starring Adam Sandler, is well, a classic Adam Sandler movie. Adam Sandler had a streak of movies starting in the early 90’s, including Big Daddy, Happy Gilmore, Mr. Deeds, Waterboy, and Billy Madison that were absolutely hilarious. Adam Sandler generally plays an immature adult, which fit perfectly into the role of Billy Madison.

Billy Madison, was a spoiled kid growing up, who did not try in school. His father bribed his teachers to let him pass and eventually graduate, but when it was time for his father retire from his job, he did not feel comfortable handing the company over to Billy, because of his constant antics. The scene which truly portrayed who Madison was the first scene of the movie; Sandler stumbles in drunk out of his mind, chasing and imaginary human size penguin. He screams gibberish at this penguin and starts the movie out with a hilarious bang.

For Sandler to receive the company, he makes a bet with his father that he could go back to school, and pass all of the grades starting from kindergarten all the way through to 12th grade, and if he graduated he would get the family business. Adam Sandler, a fully-grown man, in an elementary school classroom made for some great laughs and overall a fantastic movie. Many of the Adam Sandler movies are similar, but they are all entertaining and suggest going and seeing them all.

My Cousin Vinny

Vinny: Is it possible, the two utes...
Judge: (Interrupting); Eh, the two what? Uh, uh, what was that word?
Vinny: Uh, what word?
Judge: Two what?
Vinny: What?
Judge: Uh, did you say ‘Utes’?
Vinny: Yea, two utes.
Judge: What is a ute?
Vinny: Oh excuse me, your honor. Two YOUTHS.

My Cousin Vinny, released in 1992, immediately became the perfect representation for a city boy in the south. Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei play a couple that traveled down to Beechum County Alabama. They had traveled to Alabama, because Pesci was the family lawyer, and had to protect his cousin who was wrongly accused or murder. Pesci who had been in and out of law school for close to a decade called himself a lawyer, but ultimately, Pesci or Gambini who he played in the movie, did not know anything about law or being a lawyer, and had to learn on the fly.

There are many great parts to this movie, but what many people remember about My Cousin Vinny is Marisa Tomei. Tomei playing Mona Lisa, Gambini’s wife, won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Tomei is remembered for several lines she made while arguing with her husband Pesci. She played the perfect city girl/ tourist, who had never been to any sort of countryside. Tomei walked around with a small digital camera snapping random shots, and making the couple stick out like a “sour thumb.” Among other things in this movie it proves how growing up in a tethered life can one ignorant about the rest of the world.

My Cousin Vinny, is personally one of my favorite movies, but it not the classic laugh your ass of comedy. There are short witty jokes that you can quote with your friends forever. Although, this movie was recognized when it came out as a great movie, receiving many awards, I feel that many have never even heard of this movie, which is confusing to me. My Cousin Vinny is fantastic, and everyone should add it to their movie collection at home.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Brick Tamland: Excuse me, Veronica?
Veronica Corningstone: Yes? What is it, Brick?
Brick Tamland: I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party.
Brick Tamland: [struggling] The... party. With the... with the pants. Party with pants?
Veronica Corningstone: Brick, are you saying that there's a party in your pants and that I'm invited?
Brick Tamland: That's it.
Veronica Corningstone: Did Brian tell you to say this, Brick?
Brick Tamland: No. Yes. He did.
Veronica Corningstone: Okay. No. I don't want to go to a party in your pants.
Brick Tamland: Very well. Ian, would you like to go to a party in my pants?

When Anchorman opened in 2004 almost immediately you heard people on the streets quoting the movie. Anchorman is a classic that everyone needs to see. Certain movies you can brush off and easily forget, but a movie like Anchorman is not one. Anchorman is a movie where there are so many good quotes, you can only wish to remember them all.

Will Ferrell has countless hilarious movies, but many believe this was peak of his career. Many consider Anchorman the key to setting Will Ferrell above many of the other average comedic actors. There is no other actor that could play Ron Burgundy; Burgundy is an absolutely ridiculous character, and Will Ferrell was born to play his role in this movie.

Ferrell’s supporting cast was also full of talented actors. Actors like Paul Rudd, Steve Carrell, and Vince Vaughn are what put this movie over the top. Steve Carrell played Brick Tamland; a complete idiot. Brick was the weatherman for the news team, and he constantly provided random, irrelevant information which was absolutely hysterical.

In the middle of the movie Burgundy dropped the F-bomb on live Television, and was fired. Burgundy was one of the most popular newspersons in the city, and completely fell from fame. This proves Skinner’s point about reinforcement; it doesn’t matter who you are, there are positive and negative affects proportional to your performance.

There is not much to say about Anchorman, other than the fact that you could watch it 5 times in a row and still laugh every time. This movie gets funnier the more times you watch it, and will be, I believe, what Will Ferrell is remembered for.

Cotton McKnight: In 23 years of broadcasting I thought I'd seen it all, folks. But it looks like Peter La Fleur has actually blindfolded himself.

Pepper Brooks: He will not be able to see very well, Cotton.

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, opened in 2004, is known as one of the most entertaining movies to ever be released. This movie’s cast is full of recognizable comedic actors; including Justin Long, Ben Stiller, Jason Bateman, and Vince Vaughn.

The movie starts out in a slower fashion in comparison to the rest of the movie. The beginning of the movie presents the context; it gives background on the situation and displays the rivalry between Average Joe’s gym, and Globo gym. This part of the movie puts Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn’s true comedic ability on display. Vince Vaughn’s is very laid back, with many witty jokes, while Ben Stiller is extremely obnoxious, both making the audience laugh hysterically.

Although this movie is great all the way through, what is truly memorable about the film are the announcers of the actual Dodgeball tournament held in Las Vegas. Jason Bateman, playing Pepper Brooks performed some of the most memorable quotes in movie history. Alongside was Cotton McKnight who throughout the entire tournament seemed appalled by Brooks lack of intelligence making the scenes even funnier.

I do not want to release the entire plot to you, but the entire movie is based around the owners of a gym competing in a Dodgeball tournament to save their gym from being bought by Globo gym. Average Joe’s gym (the main character and owner of the gym Vince Vaughn) was losing all of their customers. People were either going to Globo gym, or they just stopped working out all together, and this is a similar situation which Robert Putnam stated was going on in America in Bowling Alone. Putnam stated that the social capital in America was decreasing, and this was being confirmed in the movie.

Dodgeball, although is considered one of the best movies of all time, I believe has not yet received the credit it deserves. This is one of my favorite movies, and hopefully over time will become even more recognizable.

Accepted

“Sherman Schrader: Who was that?
Bartleby Gaines: Oh, that's our mascot
Sherman Schrader: A sandwich? You're the SHIT Sandwiches?”

In 2006 a film was released featuring South Harmon Institute of Technology. South Harmon was a college created by a few high school students who were not accepted in to any colleges. They did this solely to please their parents, but ended up having a lot more fun than expected.

Bartelby Gaines, played by Justin Long, is the main character of the movie. He is a clever kid who unfortunately got denied by every college he applied too. His parents, his father in particular, were furious that he was not going to college, so Gaines comes up with the brilliant idea of creating his own college.

There was one problem with this college Gaines created, which was that anyone could attend the college. Literally anyone.

The base of the movie was built around the unique characters which attended the college. They made the college out to be a safe haven for kids who never made it and never succeeded in the early stages of their lives. South Harmon Institute of Technology was portrayed out to be a college that gave everyone a chance.

This movie is very similar to chapter 9, Growing Up Tethered. As the movie goes on Gaines and the other founders of the school become more and more committed to their college and make it part of their lives. Similarly in the chapter where it stated that kids were connected to their devices and they needed to be with them at all times.  Bartelby Gaines becomes committed to this school and fights for the college in court at the end of the movie.

This movie is not only a good story, but is hilarious. Accepted, is not as popular a movie as I thought it would be, but it is a great movie and I suggest that everyone go see it.

Caddyshack

Bill Murray: So I jump ship in Hong Kong and I make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas.
Caddy: A looper?
Bill Murray: A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-lagunga

Caddyshack, released in 1980 and directed by Harold Ramis, is consistently ranked among the funniest movies of all time. This movie is unique in many ways.

First, there is no main character. Next, a large portion of this movie is based off of improv, and not off the script. There countless scenes in this movie, which are absolutely outrageous, because of the lack of organization.

Although, there is no specific main character in this movie, what most people remember about Caddyshack is Bill Murray.

Bill Murray plays a crazy groundskeeper, of the golf course presented in this movie. Murray is remembered for his wars with the gophers on the golf course, and his mumbling of words to nearly every other character in the movie. Also remembered is Chevy Chase; in this movie Chase plays a young, affluent, single man who comes to the course everyday. Chase is known as one of the best golfers at the course, yet everyday he does not keep score, and just plays for fun. Chase is perceived as a wise and all knowing character doing everything with grace, while being comical at the same time.

This movie will forever be my favorite movie, and I suggest that everyone have it in their household. There are a numerous amount of memories from this movie from all of the characters, and is one of the most quotable movies ever made.

Horrible Bosses

“Charlie Day: [Talking to man on NavGuide] Hey I always wondered these kinds of things, but is your real name Gregory?

Atmanand: [in Indian accent] Um, no, sir. Standard NavGuide protocol is to use names American people find easy to pronounce. My real name is Atmanand.
Jason Sudeikis: You know what, buddy, I'm not gonna play by the rules. I'm gonna call you Akmantad.
Jason Bateman: Atmonent.
Atmanand: [slowly pronouncing] At-man-and.
Jason Sudeikis: I'm just gonna call you Gregory cuz that name is a fuckin nightmare, buddy, let me tell you.”

Horrible Bosses, released this past July was one of the comedy hits of the summer. Starring in this film was Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman, and Charlie Day. All three of these actors were well-known actors in Hollywood, but were not quite household names.
This movie however presented their real talents to the America.

Charlie Day has been co-starring in a popular, but fairly unknown television show called It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, where his high-pitched voice and crazy antics put the show over the top. Charlie Day did not miss a beat in this movie making myself many other audience members burst to tears. Charlie Day has been a phenomenal comedic actor for a quite a long time, and he is now finally getting the opportunity he deserves.

This movie helped all three actors make a significant name for themselves in the movie world. They pushed each other to the limit and left it all on the line. Similar to Justin Hall and his webpage, this movie pressed the actors to the edge. Whether it was the Actor Jamie Foxx having the name of “Motherf***er Jones” or if it was Charlie Day breaking and entering into another mans house and spilling all of his cocaine, this movie was literally crazy and was one of the best movies of the summer.

Dinner For Schmucks

“Well, these people invited us here to make fun of us. This is a contest for the biggest idiot...

Which I Nailed!”

Dinner For Schmucks, which was released in the summer of 2010 starring Steve Carell. In this movie Steve Carell played…. Well, Steve Carell.

In this movie he played his normal literal self, except times ten. Carell used ridiculous amounts of sarcasm and literalism to make this movie one of the best comedy movies released in 2010.

Steve Carell played a true idiot in this movie.. the movie was based around a dinner which occurred towards the end of the movie where all of the coworkers of a firm would bring an idiot to dinner to compete to see who had the biggest idiot. Carell had a unique talent, which was crafting stuffed mice into life like situations…

But this is not how Carell won the competition… Near the very end of the movie Steve Carell and Zach Galifianakis performed one of the funniest scenes in any movie all time. I’m not going to release the details to this scene, because you should go watch the movie yourself.

In this movie Carell entertained all of the specific “Carell” fans using a certain type of comedy, which was used in the TV, show The Office, and the movie Date Night. As stated by Barlow, you need to perform to a certain audience and Carell did just that.

Although Carell has been performing this way, and using this type of comedy for a long time, there are not many other actors similar to him. He is unique and if you don’t think he is funny… you need some funny lessons.
